A single Person Can make true Change

I found one interesting article on how a person can make real change.

Author: Dorothy Tannahill Moran

Can a Person Make Real Change?

That's a great question. At some point in your life, you have witnessed in yourself and perhaps others, attempts at making changes to their life which simply didn't "take". The range of changes is everything from losing weight to ending a bad relationship or smoking. Whatever the example, we have all had an opportunity to experience what seemed like good attempts but for some reason, the good attempt failed. It can leave one to wonder if, at some point, we become too solidified in various behaviors to really change. Let me set this stage by first saying: yes, we can and do make real changes all the time. I need to add that there is a bit of a process to it, but it's not rocket science so it's all available for us to do.

I usually end with a Pearl of Wisdom but on this topic this needs to be said upfront. If you are considering changing someone else: don't. You only have control over yourself. You will only frustrate yourself and tick off the other person if you make them the focus of YOUR desire to change THEM. You need to work on acceptance, but that's another article.

The process for change starts first with positioning yourself to find the need and desire to make a change. It's like what you hear about addictions, you first must recognize you have a problem before you can start doing anything about it. Along with the recognition of the issue itself, you need to spend time truly analyzing how it impacts your life. You or someone needs to ask the tough questions like: How does this get in the way of accomplishing things you want to do? What would your life be like if this issue didn't exist? How DOES this impact your life? It's not enough to say "I'm over weight and I know I shouldn't be". You need to know at your core why it really is an issue. For this process step to be useful in spurring you on to action, you may need to research the issue by reading or talking to people. This is not a waste of time. Too often people will take a run at changing an issue, before they feel any real need to make the change. When it doesn't work, they walk away wondering why or maybe rationalizing that "I knew it wouldn't work". Once you truly have internalized the need to make a change, it will help drive you forward to the next steps.

The next step is to understand the options for making the change. For a smoker it may be a selection of things like nicotine gum, hypnotherapy, or medications. You need to spend some time educating yourself on the entire range of possibilities to select from. Not all solutions are useful for all people, so it's helpful to understand what's available and how it might work. Then, narrow down the choices to the ones that you think will work for you.

Let me pause here to a make a comment. People that are facing behavioral issues like procrastination or anxiety follow the same process as anyone making any kind of change. I have noticed that people often time feel more resigned to these aspects in them, thinking that because it is something internal, they can't be helped. Let me tell you, it's all internal. It all requires work but the payoff can be worth the effort.

Once you have determined the options that you think will work best for you, it's time to prepare for the change. Preparation is the act of modifying your environment, accumulating the required resources and creating your action plan. In this step, you may find it useful to counsel with key people in your life about the work you plan to undertake and what role you would like them to play. You can not underestimate the issues that arise with key people in your life, when you undertake a change. Mostly, they will resist anything that represents change for them, which includes you making a change. An example of how this might work is if you decide to stop drinking, your drinking friends will continue to offer you drink and may pressure you to resume. It works the same if you are dieting, they will offer you extra food or if the issue is trying to reduce drama, they will kindly lead you to chaos. Recognize that this is not an evil plot to undermine your change efforts. When one person in a "system" (system meaning family or group) changes, the system will continue to work to bring it back to its previous normal behavior. If you know that from the start, you can determine the best way to handle this. For some people, they have to avoid the people that may undermine their efforts. You may be able to simply make your request: "I'm going to be modifying my eating habits in order to make myself healthier. I need your support by not offering me goodies or bringing tempting things home. You are welcome to them, but if it could be outside of my view, I'd greatly appreciate the help."

Other preparation steps may be obtaining assistance to help reinforce new behavior, provide support and give guidance. You may need to keep a daily journal of affirmations to help you modify your internal dialogue. Preparation is an important step, much like preparing to go on a trip. You don't just launch out the door. You plan the route, get the car fueled, make reservations and do the research.

You now have motivation, reason and a plan. It's time to take action. This is the action of change. Each day will be a challenge because you are going against the grain of something that has come natural to you. It is said it takes 21 days of repeated action to change a habit. You are changing a habit, so just know that for a while your new behavior will be something that doesn't yet come naturally to you. During this time, if you backslide, just acknowledge what lead up it, make adjustments and continue on. The road will not be straight and smooth and if you know that coming into this step you will be better positioned to make it through this stage successfully. You can't beat yourself up but you need to learn a lesson so you will be even better as you move forward.

Once you have reached your goal you are not done with the change work. You now enter into a maintenance phase. This is an important step because it reinforces the work you have done to make a change. Based on the work you have done in the various stages, you can use that information for your maintenance. If you now know what triggers your old behavior, you either avoid circumstances that the trigger will occur or you create a self management plan to help you respond appropriately. If you removed tempting foods while losing weight, don't bring them back home now that you hit your goal.

People can and do change every day in many spectacular ways. Change is a process with preparation and planning at its core. It's possible for you to make the changes in your life you want to make. It takes effort but the payoff is well worth it.

Indian Politics and Media act after 26/11 Mumbai terror attack

After 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, every body talking about this, Myself also one of among them.

There is so much changed the view of Indian politics and media after Mumbai attack.
Its really shame to our self, that media people are differentiating between VIP and Aam admi.
I want to know aam admi's heart broking stories where, who's relatives were died in CST. I hardly saw in TV  those people who injured and admitted in JJ hospital, where so many of them lost their relatives. One boy, who lost his both parents and relatives. In the News channel they did not showed the boy miserable story.

I read in a news paper that, a youngest terror survivor was a 3 months old baby. Baby lost her father, and mother was injured.

Media mainly concentrated covering the story on VIPs.

Their should be a very long discussions on Media policy.
Yes I know there were strong, brave hearted journalists were there, to continuously covering on going operation. But it really disturbs that I am not able to hear the story of those poor people , sorry they are not poor people but we all are Aam admi .

One major thing that I dislike was about the way media person treated with NSG commandos. After 40 hours of operation, when NSG commandos came out of Taj,  media people behaved badly with them. Without taking rest or food they continuously operating against terror, but in outside no one bothered about to arrange a proper transportation and food service. Hats off to  their braveness and tactics where they shown in completing operation and rescuing the hostages.

I am very sad that we having senseless politicians. They are  care less about the sensitiveness of the people. They showed that  how helpless and poor in their administration. After Mr Shivaraj Patil resign's from his post, Mr PM had only one option to take his position is Mr Chidambaram as a Home minister.

That one only shows us that in this Government no one candidate was eligible for this portfolio.

Why money only takes major priority in sustaining the position. Why only cast is considered ? Why for young Indians not  giving much opportunity to takle the position ?

I think as a
Indian citizen
we are not contributing our knowledge on selecting the proper Candidate.

I don't think we have the right to ask our politician to consider and solve the problem.
Because we are not able to follow a simple govt rules like adhering to traffic rules, no smoking etc...
In every corner of the government organizations, corruption is the major bottleneck.
We have to stop giving or receiving the bribe. If we fail, no one can rescue our nation.
The most major drawback, we are not motivating young Indians to take part in social services. From the child hood our parents only teaches us to dream as a Engineer, doctor etc,....

Googling Security: book that opens your eyes to how much you disclose to Google

Greg Conti -- a West Point instructor in computer science and information war -- has taken a long, hard look at the amount of information Internet users explicitly and implicitly disclose to Google and the results, collected in his book Googling Security: How Much Does Google Know About You? are sobering.

Conti enumerates all of Google's (often fantastic) services, describes how compelling they are, and then notes what information you disclose when you use them -- even when you only use them inadvertently (say, when you send email to someone with a Gmail account, or when you load a bookmarked Gmap that's been sent to a group of logged-in Google users, thus tying yourself to those users as part of the same group).

In slow, methodical steps, Conti builds his case: our complacency, Google's capacity for building compelling services, and the inadequacy of our browsers and other tools in alerting us to potential information disclosure have created a situation where Google ends up in possession of an alarming amount of information about us, our beliefs, our movements, our finances, our health, our employment and our social circles.

Conti's explanations are extremely accessible, even when discussing difficult and counter-intuitive subjects like cross-site scripting and cookies. Likewise accessible are his concrete recommendations for staunching the flow of personal information from your computer into Google's records. Finally, Conti does a great job of explaining why people who "have nothing to hide" might still want to keep their information to themselves (the approximate dimensions and characteristics of the body under your clothes aren't a secret -- but you still don't walk around naked in public and you'd resent it if someone forced you to. Private and secret aren't the same thing).

Dec.3.1984 Bhopal Industrial tragedy

In 1984, World witnessed disastress industrial accident in the history.
Bhopal, MadhyaPradesh,India city affected by poisonous gas methyl isocyanate or MIC leakage from a Union Carbide pesticide factory. Gas spreads throughout the city, killing thousands of people outright and thousands more subsequently in a disaster often described as the "worst industrial accident in history".
The plant opened in 1969 and produced the pesticide carbaryl, which was marketed as Sevin. Ten years later the plant began manufacturing MIC, a cheaper but more toxic substance used in the making of pesticides.
It was MIC gas that was released when water leaked into one of the storage tanks late on the night of Dec. 2, setting off the disaster.
The first effects were felt almost immediately in the vicinity of the plant. As the gas cloud spread into Bhopal proper, residents were awakened to a blinding, vomiting, lung-searing hell. Panic ensued and hundreds of people died in the chaotic stampede that followed..  An exact death toll has never been established. Union Carbide, not surprisingly, set the toll on the low end at 3,800, while municipal workers claimed to have cleared at least 15,000 bodies in the immediate aftermath of the accident. Thousands have died since and an estimated 50,000 people became invalids or developed chronic respiratory conditions as a result of being poisoned.

The victims of the disaster, those who live on, continue dealing with various health problems — including chronic respiratory problems, vision problems and an increased incidence of cancer and birth defects — and an environment that remains contaminated to this day.

This is how Bhopal tragedy goes on continuing still today, there is know end. After one week of Mumbai Terror attack, Indians have to remember this tragic day.
